Tylee Craft, whose protracted battle with cancer served as an inspiration and motivation to his Tar Heel football colleagues, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024. He was 23 years old. The UNC program announced the news in a social media post immediately after the conclusion of its game against Georgia Tech. Craft, a four-star wide receiver prospect from Sumter, S.C., enrolled at Carolina in January 2020. Over the subsequent two seasons, he participated in 11 games.

In March 2022, Craft was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer and commenced chemotherapy at UNC’s Lineberger Cancer Centre. The football program paid numerous tributes to Craft during his fight, including naming their 2022 spring game in his honour and affixing helmet decals with his No. 13 jersey. Craft was awarded the 2022 Disney Spirit Award for his role as “the most inspirational figure in college football.”

Craft maintained a consistent presence at the UNC football facilities throughout his treatment, attending every practice, meeting, and game that he could. In the spring of 2024, he completed his undergraduate studies at UNC and subsequently commenced his pursuit of a graduate degree in the autumn. Craft had previously disclosed to Chapelboro that his objective was to become a recruiter for the National Football League.
