Erika Carr, the mother of Ogden, passed away after battling a rare terminal malignancy. People from all over the country came together to support her, contributing more than $1 million to her GoFundMe page, which was initially only intended to raise $5,000.

Erika Carr, 30, was a single mother of two children, Jeremiah, 7, and Aaliyah, 5. According to her GoFundMe page, Carr was diagnosed with Stage 4 small cell lung carcinoma on May 7, 2022, which she characterises as a “high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma.” She had been fighting for her life for more than two years when she was diagnosed the day before Mother’s Day.

Her condition had improved, and positive scans allowed her to discontinue treatment and monitor her progress. On January 17, 2024, she developed Cushing’s syndrome, a rare hormonal disorder that arises when the body is excessively exposed to cortisol for an extended period. This occurred during this period. It resulted in a variety of challenging effects on her body, such as rapid weight gain and swelling, muscle and bone deterioration, elevated blood pressure, and Type 2 diabetes.

On September 18, 2024, physicians informed her that she had only three months to live, despite the fact that she had resumed her treatment. She opted to forgo treatment and instead dedicate the time to her two children.
