Richard Ben of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, has passed away, he was the Tribal Chief at Meadow Lake Tribal Council. He was a calm of all storms and was such a riveting leader. Ben was kind, also he had humour.
He was elected as the tribal Chief of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) in 2019. Ben, who was the chief of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation for a number of years, received 34 ballots, while Robert Sylvester of Birch Narrows Dene Nation received 15 votes.
Ben, a father of two, was a firm believer in the importance of culture, tradition, and community. During his tenure as chief of the MSFN, he has exerted a great deal of effort to construct a robust community in which families have the opportunity to flourish and grow. Additionally, he worked hard to create a community in which members can feel safe and have opportunities to improve themselves and their families. He also believed that the nine bands that make up the MLTC may do a great deal of the same thing if they collaborate.
